Tanım

Kuruluşundan bu yana Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) Eğitim Teknolojisi alanında lider organizasyon olmuştur. AECT Lider olarak Eğitim Teknolojisi alanını tanımlamış ve bu tanımı gelişen teknoloji, kuram ve eğitim teknologlarının işlevlerine göre yıllar içerisinde yenilemiştir.

1963 Tanımı (Department of Audiovisual Instruction - DAVI)

“Audiovisual communications is that branch of educational theory and
practice primarily concerned with the design and use of messages which
control the learning process.”[1]

Tanımın çevirisi : Görsel-İşitsel iletişim eğitim kuram ve pratiğinin bir dalıdır ve temel çalışma alanı öğrenme süreçlerini kontrol eden mesajların tasarımı ve kullanımıdır.

1972 yılında DAVI yeniden yapılandırılarak AECT oldu.

1972 Tanımı (AECT)

"Educational technology is a field involved in the facilitation of human learning through the systematic identification, development, organization and utilization of a full range of learning resources and through the management of these processes." [2]

Tanımın çevirisi : Eğitim Teknolojisi, tüm öğrenme kaynaklarının sistematik tanımlama, geliştirme, düzenleme ve kullanımı ve bu süreçlerin yönetimiyle insan öğrenmesini kolaylaştıran bir alandır.

1977 Tanımı (AECT)

"Educational technology is a complex, integrated process, involving people, procedures, ideas, devices and organization, for analyzing problems and devising, implementing, evaluating and managing solutions to those problems, involved in all aspects of human learning. " [3]

Tanımın çevirisi : "Eğitim Teknolojisi, her türlü öğrenme koşullarında problemlerin ortaya konmasından, bu problemler için çeşitli (değerlendirme, yönetim, uygulama) çözümler üretilmesine kadar her aşamada insanların, yöntem ve fikirlerin, çeşitli araçların ve örgütsel fikirlerin de içinde bulunduğu karmaşık ve tümleşik bir süreçtir."

 1994 Tanımı (AECT)

“Instructional Technology is the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and resources for learning.”[4]

Tanımın çevirisi : Öğretim Teknolojisi, öğrenme süreç ve kaynaklarının tasarımı, geliştirilmesi, kullanımı, yönetimi ve değerlendirilmesi aşamalarına ait kuram ve uygulamalardır.

2008 Tanımı (AECT)

"Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources."[5]

 Tanımın çevirisi : Eğitim Teknolojisi, teknolojik süreç ve kaynakların oluşturulması, kullanılması ve yönetimiyle öğrenmeyi destekteme ve performans geliştirme çalışma ve etik uygulamasıdır.
